‘emoji and pixel’ is a video work in which the presence of pixels is emphasized through emojis. The blinking dots gradually evolve into numbers, letters and emoji, with the emoji forming the image.

Pixel is the smallest unit of an image and forms the basis of visual media. However, with advances in recording and playback technology and CGI, we are less and less aware of the existence of pixels. This video work attempts to preserve the concept of the vanishing pixel using motifs representative of our time.

The video was generated by my own emoji collage creation software, emojineer (explained in ‘emojineer’ project page). I was responsible for the initial development of emojineer and the direction of the video production.
